●What are electric bikes?

E-bike, or pedelec, its full name is electric bike or pedal electric cycle. One category of e-bikes is called eMTB, namely electric mountain bike.

Electric bikes are different from ordinary bikes which depend on manpower. They have a motor system with auxiliary power but are mainly driven by pedaling.

Only by pedaling, can an electric bike provide assisted power to riders through the motor system. Therefore riders' pressure of pedaling would be decreased, and the riding would be effortless.

 

●How do electric bikes work?

By and large, the motor drive system is the main reason why electric bikes are different from most other bikes. It contains three parts: a sensor, controller, and motor.

When the cyclist pedals, the sensor will sense the force and speed of pedaling, and transmit the speed, cadence, torque, and other information to the controller. Then the controller sends instructions to control the motor operation through calculation.

It is worth mentioning that most motors do not directly act on the transmission system. The motor outputs power at high speed and low torque. The torque needs to be amplified through the deceleration system, and the output speed should be close to the cadence of the human legs (mid-drive motor) or the speed of the wheelset (hub motor).
